There will be a notable absence in Season 2 of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

A follow-up to the popular movie franchise, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers television series premiered on Disney+ in March 2021.
The series is set in present-day Minnesota as the team once filled with “scrappy underdogs” has now become a super competitive hockey team.

In the first season of the series, Emilio Estevez reprised his role as Gordon Bombay from the film franchise. However, Deadline reports that Disney has made the decision not to pick up Estevez’s option for Season 2 after weeks of back and forth with his team over the production’s vaccination requirement.

According to sources, Estevez declined to provide assurances that he would comply with the show’s mandatory vaccination policy for the cast and crew. With the uncertainty continuing as the Season 2 scripts were being written, reports indicate that the studio decided not to exercise the actor’s option and instead adjust the scripts to continue the story without the character.

At the same time, Deadline also reports that sources close to Estevez have indicated that creative differences may have played a role in his exit.
