Black Widow was one of the most successful movies during the pandemic. Despite its massive success, it also had a controversial release strategy that led to a lawsuit between Disney and Scarlett Johansson.

Johansson had originally filed the lawsuit because the film Black Widow was simultaneously released in theaters and Disney+ instead of exclusively in theaters. Disney argued that due to COVID-19 and the state of theaters, they were justified to release the film on Disney+ and in theaters simultaneously.

After a long back-and-forth, the suit was forced into private arbitration and settled.
