Disney has been sharing tons of details about the new planning app coming to the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps this fall — Disney Genie.

The new tool will bring together 60 years of expertise and help guests maximize their time in the parks by providing them with a personalized schedule, suggested dining options, and more. And, with so many new features to learn about, we’re covering the little details that you may have missed but will make a BIG difference during your trip!

These Are The 5 Most Mind-Blowing Features Coming to Disney Genie!

Forecasted Wait Times for Attractions

Many guests are likely used to searching for current attraction wait times on the My Disney Experience app, but Disney Genie will help guests minimize their wait times even more by providing forecasted wait times for rides throughout the day!

You’ll now be able to anticipate when the lines will be shortest!

So, guests can add which attractions they’re hoping to ride throughout the day to the app and it will take into account forecasted waits and availability throughout the day to create recommendations for when would be the best time to ride.

And, Disney Genie will even suggest dining locations that guests can mobile order from that are conveniently located near the attractions around mealtimes!

Real-Time Itinerary Suggestions

Plus, as part of the free features, guests will be able to input their preferences for the day such as rides they want to tackle, places they want to eat, and dining reservations that they have and the app will automatically create an itinerary.

And, as wait times fluctuate, dining locations get busy, and inclement weather hits the area, Disney Genie will continue to update your itinerary throughout the day so that you can know the best way to plan your day.

Disney PhotoPass AR Lenses

The new feature will also include a paid-for option called Disney Genie+, which includes access to new Lightning Lanes (more on this later). But, skipping the line isn’t the only benefit to purchasing Disney Genie+!

At Disney World, guests will also gain access to new Disney PhotoPass AR Lenses, which offer up a new way to capture all of your vacation memories.

New Audio Experiences in the Parks

Disney Genie+ will also include access to exclusive new Audio Experiences that feature Imagineers and other special guests who share behind-the-scenes secrets about attractions and other locations around the park!

So, you’ll be able to experience the parks in an entirely new way (and unlock some hidden details in the process).

Lightning Lane Entrances

Lastly, Disney finally answered the question of whether FastPasses would return to Disney World and Disneyland. And, while it was announced that FastPass, FastPass+, and MaxPass would be discontinued moving forward, Disney did share details about the new way to “skip the line” at attractions — through the Lightning Lane!

FastPass+ is being replaced with new Lightning Lanes

Unlike FastPass+, access to the Lightning Lane at attractions will need to be purchased using either Disney Genie+ or Individual Attraction Selections.

There will be a NEW way to skip the line soon!

Disney Genie+ will include Lightning Lane access to over 40 attractions throughout all four theme parks in Disney World for $15 per person, per day and over 15 attractions in both Disneyland Parks for $20 per person, per day. But, Disney’s most highly demanded rides will not be included in Disney Genie+.

Instead, guests hoping to ride some of the most popular attractions like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Disney World or Radiator Springs Racers at Disneyland will need to purchase access to the Lightning Lane through Individual Attraction Selection.

The pricing of Individual Attraction Selections will vary based on the date, attraction, park, and guests will only be able to book a maximum of two attractions per person, per day.

  1. “Mind blowing” is too strong a term. Touring Plans had been doing itineraries and forecasted wait times for years. Genie+ is really just Disneyland Maxpass with a couple of minor additions.

  2. To put it lightly i am disgusted with Disney and i am sure Walt and Roy are too! Whoever is in charge and making changing is just looking to make money! Disney is becoming only for people who make lots of money making so many children who dream to go ineligible. People will have to chose to go in debt to make little childrens dreams come true. I have been a DVC member for 30 years and will be selling it asap.

  3. Also a DVC owner since 1995. I am so disappointed in Disney’s recent changes. I really hate what they have done with annual passes. Taking away free fast passes is just another money grab.

  4. The new Disney Genie+ app is not secure and can be hacked by a third party that will expose all phone data to the hacker.

  5. It’s clear Disney only cares about money and not the customer, I get needing to change some things but they are getting out of hand with it. Walt said he wanted Disneyland to be a place for everyone, yet Disney is making Disneyland and Disneyworld very out of reach for most.

  6. DVC owner here. I’m really trying to understand this money grab. We now have to pay for most extra magic hours, they used to be a perk for staying on property. We used to get 3 fast passes and more through out the day for free, now we have to pay for this. Universal gives free fast lane to those staying on property. I already pay a premium for DVC. Others pay more to stay on property. Where are the perks? Genie + should be free to Disney resort and DVC guests.

  7. Again Disney is taking away the ability of park guests to pre plan their vacations. One of the benefits of FP+ was the ability to plan 60 days in advance of a WDW vacation. That is no longer

    1. Which is something most guest didn’t like. Most people don’t like having to plan out what rides they’re going to ride 60 days out or risk not getting to do them.

      1. Are you speaking for “Most Guests”? You didn’t ask me and I liked to plan. I know a lot of Disney families that rather enjoyed the planning. Maybe supposing what others like or don’t like is not the data we are looking for.

    1. I would think the app’s ability to make an itinerary of your preselected must do’s based on real time demand that day to maximize your time at the park does just that.

      1. Are we forgetting that this ability to preselect in now a pay to ride privilege. The real time aspect is a variable on availability of your choice and attraction demand. With FastPass + you could schedule attractions around your day or evening plans. Now, Genie may not have any times available until way past the time you wanted to stay at any one park. Not a maximized day.
