What Will Flying to Disney World Look Like This Summer?

The summer travel season has arrived, and things are beginning to pick up again, especially in Orlando!

Airport Crowds

In anticipation of bigger crowds this summer, Disney World recently extended its summer hours at its parks and Disney Springs. And it looks like a lot more people plan to fly into Orlando over the next few months.

According to The Orlando Business Journal, domestic summer travel at the Orlando International Airport is about to really take off and could even hit levels the airport hasn’t seen since pre-pandemic.

Experts compared data from the 2019 flight season to the 2021 season up through the third quarter of the year.

Here’s what they found: domestic flights to Orlando are expected to reach almost 38,000 in the third quarter, which is up 1.57% from flights in the fourth quarter of 2019. Domestic flights through the airport for the third quarter of 2021 are expected to increase 6.8% from the second quarter of 2021. Seat capacity on flights is also expected to increase this summer.

Note that this data does not take international flights into account. Many international flights, though, are still restricted or hindered by their local governments due to the global pandemic. VisitOrlando has previously stated that international travel to the area may not rebound until 2023.

However, domestic travel does seem to be on the rise and it looks like the Orlando Airport is about to get a lot busier than it’s been over the past year.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation and keep you updated.

  1. I’ve flown in and out of MCO twice this year – In April and yesterday. Both times we had a terrible experience. Food court lines hours long and many ran out of food. Restaurant and bar closed. No soda in the shops. People everywhere.
