The Lion King musical is one of our all-time favorites. The vibrant colors, the intricate sets, the gorgeous soundtrack — we love it all.

Nala and Simba

We extend our love of this production to the performers who bring this classic tale to life — which is why we’re so excited for performer Eli Zaelo’s career, and how it continues to progress beyond her days on The Lion King stage.

After wowing audiences with her performances in Hong Kong Disneyland’s The Lion King musical, Eli Zaelo, 27, has become a pop singer for the region she’s grown to love. According to a recent report from SCMP News, Zaelo grew up in South Africa and moved out to Hong Kong in 2015 to pursue her role as Nala in The Lion King musical. Her career as a dancer in the park lasted a year and a half before she decided to follow a new passion — Chinese popular music (AKA: C-Pop).

In 2018, Zaelo began recording song covers, which then led to her producing her own music and music videos. The video below features an interview from Eli Zaelo as she discusses her journey from starting as a Disney performer and transforming into the original artist she is today:
