NEWS: San Diego Comic-Con To Host Special In-Person Event This Fall

The global health crisis upended a lot of big conventions last year, most notably Star Wars Celebration and San Diego Comic-Con.

In 2020, Star Wars Celebration was postponed until 2022, while San Diego Comic-Con has canceled both its 2020 and 2021 cons. Like last year, Comic-Con will instead host a free virtual event called [email protected].

However, San Diego Comic-Con just recently announced that it will have its first in-person event since 2019 in 2021. The Comic-Con Special Edition will be held at the San Diego Convention Center on Thanksgiving weekend from November 26th through 28th.

Comic [email protected] Panels DisneyComic-Con spokesperson David Glanzer said, “While we have been able to pivot from in-person gatherings to limited online events, the loss of revenue has had an acute impact on the organization as it has with many small businesses, necessitating reduced work schedules and reduction in pay for employees, among other issues. Hopefully, this event will shore up our financial reserves and mark a slow return to larger in-person gatherings in 2022.”

Details for the event are still being finalized, and there is no word yet on what a badge for the event will cost or what attendance capacity will be. We’ll keep you posted.
