We Had a RARE Encounter With Animals at Disney World Today!

Behind the scenes at Walt Disney World, Cast Members are doing a lot of work to help endangered species survive.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can get a peek at some of the animals as they enjoy their day grazing in the sun. We love stopping by to say hi to them and every once in a while we get lucky and spot a super rare animal!

When we were visiting Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas — Kadani Village, we got to see an okapi couple! If you remember the Kilamanjaro Safaris spiel, you’ll know that okapi are an endangered species that are actually a relative of the giraffe, though the pattern on their leg looks more like a zebra. What you might not know is that it’s rare to spot two of them together!

Okapi are also known as the Forest Giraffe

So, why did two all of a sudden decide to hang out for the day? It’s baby okapi time! A Cast Member told us that okapis are usually only spotted together during mating season. So, could Olivia and Elombe (Eli for short) be expecting?

This was the last baby okapi born at Disney World in 2018!

We’ll have to wait and see, but there might be a baby okapi wandering around Kidani Village some time in the future!
