Although vaccines are ramping up distribution and some restrictions are lifting across the country, the pandemic continues to force closures of events.

The latest shutdown comes out of Kansas City, where Disney on Ice has canceled its remaining performances.

In December, Disney initially announced its plan to put on 16 performances of its Dream Big ice show at Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center, which was operating with drastically reduced capacity numbers to meet health and safety standards.

Disney on Ice was the first event series in the arena that allowed guests since the pandemic started, and performances began on January 28. However, due to a COVID-19 outbreak among Cast Members in the show, the Kansas City Health Department urged Disney on Ice to cancel the remaining T-Mobile Center performances that were slated to run through February 7.

Currently, indoor gatherings of more than 10 people must submit a mitigation plan for approval from the Kansas City Health Department. According to city spokesman Chris Hernandez, the Health Department released an order which revoked the approval of the gathering, due to the outbreak.

He added that no spectators were believed to have been infected, and that the outbreak was limited to Cast Members. Anyone who purchased tickets with a credit card will be automatically refunded, and those who paid in cash can get a refund at the box office.
