NEWS: Singer Akon is Building a Real-Life Wakanda Complete with Cryptocurrency, Luxury Amenities, and Solar-Powered Energy

Senegalese-American singer and songwriter, Akon, is building a city inspired by, Wakanda, the fictional African country featured in Marvel’s Black Panther.

Akon revealed many of the details with CNN. The interview is timely as Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman, passed away within the last week, which caused Whoopi Goldberg to call on Disney for a Wakanda-themed land. Now, the world is getting the real thing, but on a much larger (and more real) scale.

The futuristic city will be inspired by the hi-tech country featured in Black Panther. Akon stated, “our idea is to build a futuristic city that incorporates all the latest technologies, cryptocurrencies, and also the future of how African society should become in the future.”

“We are looking at Akon city to become the beginning of Africa’s future,” Akon stated. The city will have its own cryptocurrency called Akoin. It will also be solar-powered and have healthcare facilities, offices, luxury houses, shopping malls, skyscrapers, eco-friendly tourist centers, and an international airport within minutes of the city.

To build the city, Akon was given 2,000 acres of land from the President of Senegal, where the city will reside. He was also awarded part of the $6 billion required to build the land through investors. Akon is also hoping that the new city will create jobs in Africa.

Plans for the city were announced back in 2018. Akon just broke grounds in Mbodiene park, 100 kilometers from Dakar, the country’s capital, and will continue to build the city at the beginning of next year.
