We have to be honest with you that 2020 just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser (still trying to wrap our heads around why the Baby Yoda Stress Ball exists and why we want it so much).
Movie theaters around the country will start opening soon with AMC offering 15 cent tickets and Universal CityWalk’s Cinemark already playing some of the best throwback films out there. Although you can chill at home to watch Disney+ (and stream Mulan while you’re at it), there’s a strange NEW place that you’ll be able to watch movies…and we’re actually really excited about it.
Recently, drive-in theaters have been all the rage because people sit in their cars, bring their own snacks, and enjoy the classics on the big screen without being around other people. Even though many cities have their own drive-ins, Walmart is teaming up with the Tribeca Film Festival to bring drive-in theaters to 160 stores across the United States!
Yes, you read that right — you’ll be able to have a movie night with your whole family at your local Walmart soon! The parking lots will become outdoor theaters from August 14th through October 21st with 320 showings of movies across the country. Walmart has stated that it will be a “fun, contact-free experience” for visitors to watch movies picked by the Tribeca Film Festival.
Drew Barrymore will be the virtual host for the events (and even make a live appearance as a surprise at one of the drive-in locations). Other celebrities like Peter Berg, Jennifer Garner, LeBron James, and Chrissy Metz may also appear virtually or in-person during the movie nights.
If you haven’t been to a drive-in, it’s important to note that you are able to bring food and drinks with you as long as they’re not alcoholic (and you have a Walmart right there to stock up on your favorite goodies). Guests will be required to have masks with them for everyone in the car and must remain in their vehicles.
The tickets are free, but they must be reserved in advance. After guests receive confirmation, they will get an email with a QR code for entry to the event. The gates open to the socially distanced parking spaces at 6PM with the movie beginning at 7:30PM. No late entry will be allowed.
Some of the movies guests can expect to see include Wonder Woman, Space Jam, Spy Kids, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, Ghostbusters, Black Panther, Friday Night Lights, and a whole lot more. Everyone can check out the dates, store locations, movies being playing, and make reservations at the Walmart Drive-in website.
Even though we’re happy to relax at home, we think the Walmart Drive-in would be a GREAT way to get your family out of the house for some fun! Who would have thought that Walmart would be our next go-to destination this year?
Here’s what our readers think about paying extra to watch Mulan on Disney+!
