Orange County’s Mayor Jerry Demings held a press conference today to discuss events and situations happening in Florida.
Although Orange County’s task force has moved past approving theme park reopening dates, the newest mandatory order from Mayor Demings will affect how Orange County will operate soon.
During the meeting from today, Mayor Demings announced that he has signed an Executive Order that states “every person working, living, visiting or doing business in Orange County [must] wear a facial covering consistent with the CDC guidelines while in any public space.”
The Executive Order will be going into effect this upcoming Saturday on June 20th. Demings stated that, if the numbers of positive tests continues to grow, it will “trigger something else” (but he did not specify what he meant by that statement). He asked that everyone visiting abide by the guidelines since the county needs the assistance of everyone for things to work.
Demings also stated that he wanted to find ways to provide masks in the county where there are deficits in communities. He has already started speaking to small businesses about people being able to pick up free PPE kits with face masks (both disposable and cloth kinds) and bottles of hand sanitizer.
He stated that people should wear masks when they are out in public at all times, especially in places where there is socializing and congregating amounts of visitors. Although not required while actively eating and drinking, employees should be wearing them consistently in restaurants.
Mayor Demings has also encouraged businesses to deny entry to people not wearing face masks where appropriate. He also has stated to members of the public that they should avoid places where people aren’t adhering to face mask or social distancing guidelines.
At this time, exercise is excluded from the face mask requirement, but people should still maintain social distancing both indoors and outdoors.
As this situation unfolds, we will continue to keep you updated with more information!
