Photographing Clouds at Walt Disney World

Clear blue skies are lovely to most people. For me, I look for clouds to give the sky drama in my photography.

For instance, as I was walking around Epcot’s World Showcase towards the Koutoubia Minaret (prayer tower) in the Morocco pavilion, I noticed the lovely cloud pattern in the sky above it.

Late November and December at Walt Disney World can bring out big puffy clouds. Clouds added a dramatic backdrop to the end of a Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire show in front of Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom.

When the sky is overcast with clouds, I tend to try not to get them in the frame as they are so much brighter and often get blown out. Yet, when I was on Sunset Blvd. in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I could not resist taking a HDR set of photos of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Once processed, I think it came out just right.

The HDR processing controlled the brightness of the clouds and brought out their spooky textures.
