Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland both closed at the end of last month in response to the coronavirus outbreak in China.

Now, according to Disney’s chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, the closures are expected to last at least two months and cause a massive loss in Disney’s earnings.
The Shanghai park has been closed since January 25th and the Hong Kong Park has been closed since January 26th. If Disney’s estimate is correct, then the earliest we’ll see these parks reopen is in late March or early April.

What’s more, the closures occurred on the weekend of Lunar New Year, one of the busiest periods for the Chinese parks. Assuming a two-month closure, Disney is looking at a loss of approximately $175 million.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and report in with any news about both Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland.
