Experience Pandora culture, hear Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde speak at Orlando art event
Posted onDisney Imagineer Joe Rohde will speak this week at the Orlando Museum of Art during its 1st Thursdays series. Rohde, who led the creative team responsible for designing Disney's Animal Kingdom, will be giving two presentations that focus on the important role that art plays in bringing a Disney theme park from concept to reality. The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 3 at the museum in downtown Orlando. Specifically, the evening will emphasize its theme of "Celebrating the Beauty of the Natural World" with various aspects related to the new Pandora - The World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom. Participants will sample complimentary food and treats inspired by Animal Kingdom, featuring select items from Satu'li Canteen, the counter service restaurant inside Pandora - The World of Avatar. They also can enjoy listening to live entertainment inspired by the theme park. Rohde's presentations will take place at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The 1st Thursdays event costs $15 for adults and $5 for children. It's free for kids ages 3 and younger. Orlando Museum of Art members also have complimentary admission. Tickets can be purchased on the website.

Disney’s Vero Beach helps kick off 2017 Tour de Turtles
Posted onDisney's Vero Beach will help kick off Tour de Turtles next weekend on the East Coast of Florida, and the state's visitors and locals alike have several opportunities to join in the fun surrounding the marine marathon. This is the 10th year for Tour de Turtles, and there will be 20 sea turtles representing four different species. The turtles leave from various nesting beaches around the world, including one in front of Disney's Vero Beach Resort, and will be tracked for about three months. The turtle that swims the farthest during that time will be declared the winner.

Disney’s new Star Wars hotel to allow guests step into story and role-play
Posted onDisney Parks and Resorts are taking immersive to a new level with the Star Wars-themed hotel that is being planned for Walt Disney World. The announcement came at the D23 Expo over the weekend in Anaheim, Calif. Details were not plentiful, but Kristin Ford writes about what we know so far.
Celebrate Christmas in July at Walt Disney World
Posted onNow through July 30, the Marketplace side of Disney Springs will be celebrating Christmas in July with merchandise, entertainment and treats. Some of the holiday-themed activities include:
-- Santa, dressed in his summer vacation attire, meeting and taking photos with guests at Disney's Days of Christmas each day from 1 to 10 p.m.
