We've Got Some Bad News About This Budget Airline

The past five years have been particularly difficult for the airline industry. In 2020, the global pandemic prevented people from traveling much, meaning that airlines lost a lot of money from a lack of passengers. Since then, it seems some airlines are still struggling, especially now amidst higher fuel costs.

Spirit Airlines, which recently won the top spot for best overall airline in 2026, is really struggling right now. According to Bloomberg, the airline will liquidate soon, which will cause some real issues for both the airline and its passengers.

According to CBS News, Spirit Airlines may be forced to liquidate due to rising fuel costs, as the airline has been struggling since 2020. Some experts are even predicting that the liquidation could happen this week. Liquidation would result in Spirit closing down and selling all its assets due to debt.

This would essentially put the airline out of business overnight, which could disrupt travel plans for its passengers, even potentially leaving passengers stranded. So if you have an upcoming flight booked on Spirit, your flight could be affected.

However, other airlines are putting processes in place to help those flyers stranded by the liquidation by offering “rescue fares,” which are discounted fares to get stranded Spirit passengers home.

However, if you are flying Spirit over the next few days, you will want to have a backup plan to get home if Spirit should close. At the moment, Spirit Airlines has confirmed that it is still operating and is still flying, as well as still accepting reservations and bookings.

If you are considering booking a flight on Spirit Airlines this summer, you’ll certainly want to reconsider, and if you do book a flight on the airline, make sure that a backup plan is figured out ahead of time so you don’t get stranded.
