Were Some of These 2026 Storm Names Inspired By Disney Characters?

While we’re still many months away from hurricane season in Orlando, did you know that the names of storms are planned well in advance?

Yes, tropical storms and hurricanes are named to keep track of them, but those names are chosen well in advance. We took a look at the names for the storms that will hit in 2026, and let’s just say that we’re thinking SOME of these had to be chosen with Disney names in mind!

Chief Meteorologist Jamie Arnold from WMBF recently shared the names that will be chosen for any of the storms we get later this year, whether they’re tropical storms or hurricanes. From what we can see, there are five of them that we’re thinking definitely have Disney ties!

Starting off strong, Arthur reminds us of Arthur Pendragon from The Sword in the Stone, for sure. This 1963 animated feature film follows Arthur, a 12-year-old orphan who becomes King of England when he’s able to pull a legendary sword from a stone.

Next on the list is Bertha, who reminds us of Big Bertha from 1900 Park Fare in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This isn’t a character from a Disney film or TV show — no, she’s actually the giant pipe organ located inside the restaurant. She’s hard to miss, but is as iconic as ever!

Dolly makes us think of Dolly Parton, though she’s not Disney-affiliated, and Gonzalo is SO close to Gonzo from The Muppets, but not quite there. However, the particular spelling of Hanna has GOT to be a reference to Hurricane Hanna’s at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

Then, we’ve got Nana, who 100% makes us think of the iconic nurse character from Peter Pan, who you can also see in the popular Peter Pan’s Flight ride in Disney World and Disneyland. Despite her name, if you haven’t seen the film, Nana is actually a dog (and the best of all time, if you ask me).

Finally, we’ve got Sally, which immediately made us think of Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas! We’ll find it especially humorous if a storm with this name happens to hit closer to the Halloween season.
