When it comes to travel, we know a thing or two! We catch a flight at least once a month, if not more, to check out Disney World and the other parks around the world. That means we’ve had our fair share of luggage mishaps and major travel mistakes.
It also means we have our favorites when it comes to airlines! American Airlines is about to make a bid for one of our top contenders thanks to this new free perk.
Starting today, January 6th, American Airlines is now offering free in-flight wifi for most of its flights! The wifi is available exclusively for members of the carrier’s AAdvantage program, but that’s not a problem at all. It’s free to sign up for their loyalty program, so free points and free wifi all in one!
The rollout began today and will be done in phases. The wifi, which is sponsored by AT&T, will be available on all narrow-body mainline and regional planes that have Viasat and Intelsat connectivity at first. According to American Airlines, this will impact more than 2 million flights a year. They confirmed nearly every American flight will have free wifi by early spring 2026.
Using the wifi will also be easy! All you will need to do is go to the aainflight.com portal and log in with your AAdvantage number and password before you select “Free Wi-Fi” to start browsing. American is also adding two new Boeing aircrafts that will feature free wifi as well. After the rollout is complete, the airline will offer free wi-fi on more aircraft than any other airline in the world.
Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said, “Free high-speed Wi-Fi isn’t just a perk — it’s essential for today’s travelers.” American previously announced the rollout in April 2025, but the process just began today. In-flight wifi has become a true perk when flying, especially when you want to stay connected or even work from the air, so this will be a huge help to our wallets!
