There’s so much you need to remember before you head to the airport. You need to have your bags packed with everything you need (for us, it’s usually Mickey ears), bring things to keep you entertained on the plane, and you definitely can’t forget your wallet. While you’re grabbing your wallet, you might want to check that you have a REAL ID, too.

Last year, TSA started requiring REAL IDs to fly, but if you haven’t been to the DMV yet, you might start running into issues.
Starting February 1st, travelers who do not have a REAL ID or an acceptable form of ID at TSA checkpoints and still want to fly will have to pay a $45 fee and undergo the TSA ConfirmID process. This is to make sure that the fee to cover an insufficient ID will come from the traveler and not the taxpayer.

More than 94% of passengers already have a REAL ID or acceptable form of ID, so you’ll want to double-check before heading out, but you might already be covered. TSA is encouraging travelers to pay this fee online before traveling, but you will be able to pay at the airport; however, you should expect delays.

Other forms of identification that are acceptable include passports and passport cards, as well. These are for passengers over 18, and you can also use digital identification like Apple Digital ID, Clear ID, and Google ID Pass.
