A popular budget airline has announced more cuts to its flight offerings.

On the heels of announcing that the company is filing for bankruptcy for the second time within a year, Spirit Airlines has also revealed that it plans to end flights in 12 cities. These cuts will be added to other recent reductions in service by the budget airline.
This Thursday, Spirit Airlines confirmed that it plans to exit the following 11 cities in which it currently operates as of October 2nd:
- Albuquerque, New Mexico
- Birmingham, Alabama
- Boise, Idaho
- Chattanooga, Tennessee
- Oakland, California
- Columbia, South Carolina
- Portland, Oregon
- Sacramento, California
- Salt Lake City, Utah
- San Diego, California
- San Jose, California

In addition to the halt in service in these existing markets, the company also revealed that it’s canceling plans to launch service in Macon, Georgia, which was originally slated for October 16th.

The carrier has had a string of financial difficulties lately, having filed for bankruptcy in November 2024 and again in August 2025. Spirit is cutting service to the announced cities in an attempt to improve its bottom line by eliminating money-losing routes.

During the company’s recent quarterly earnings call in August, Spirit said it had “substantial doubt” about its ability to stay in business, pointing to factors like weak demand for domestic leisure travel and “adverse market conditions.” As of the bankruptcy filing, Spirit said it intends to conduct business as usual during the restructuring process, meaning customers can still book flights and use their purchased tickets.

While Spirit Airlines continues to struggle financially, other budget airlines have moved in to fill the market, with new routes recently announced by other carriers like Frontier Airlines and Breeze Airways.

We’ll be on the lookout for any future updates on service from Spirit Airlines, so stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news.
