Let’s be honest, Epic Universe has some ANNOYING ride rules.

“Annoying” might be a little harsh, but these rules can definitely be frustrating when you’re trying to maximize your time and fun in the park! That’s why we’ve rounded up the list of rules that might negatively impact your visit. And if you’re worried about them, we’ve got solutions for how to make them less annoying!
Rides Can Hit Capacity
If you’re heading to Epic Universe in the coming months when the park’s still quite popular, one thing you should know is that rides can actually hit capacity. This most often happens toward the end of the night, when Universal cuts off the line so that they can get everyone already in the queue on the ride in a respectable amount of time.

You’re most likely to witness this phenomenon with Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, since that ride is the most popular one in the park. If you find this ride or any other getting extremely long waits during your visit, we encourage you NOT to wait until the end of the night to hop in line. If the wait time is still high at that point, there’s a chance they could cut off the queue before you get in line.

Instead, you’ll probably want to rope drop the ride on your to-do list that typically has the highest wait time. Knock it out first thing so that you can get it out of the way without worrying about capacity limits!
There Are a LOT of Height Restrictions
If you’ve been to theme parks before, then you know that there are height restrictions in place for more thrilling rides or rides with special seating. These often prevent babies and toddlers from riding attractions that aren’t safe for their size.

The unfortunate thing about Epic Universe is that the ONLY ride available to riders of all heights is Constellation Carousel. So families with babies and little ones may have some challenges in the parks that families with older kids won’t.

If you’re a family with small children, there are some things you can do instead! The bigger rides often have family swap rooms, where one family member can wait with the small child while the other family member rides, and then they switch. Epic Universe is also home to two theater shows, a splash pad, a play area, and plenty of activities that little kids will enjoy.
Weather Closures Are a Bummer
We know that it’s a safety concern that outdoor rides have to close when there’s lightning in the area, but that pill is extra hard to swallow at Epic Universe. Here, 7 of the 11 rides will close when there’s inclement weather. That’s a BIG percentage.

So what do you do when there’s a storm in the area? Well, if you check the radar ahead of time, you can plan to eat during bad weather, you can hit up one of the indoor attractions (but be warned, the line could be long), or you can visit one of the shows. Keep your day flexible in case lightning comes!
Phones & Filming on Rides Is a No-Go
One rule that’s important to note at Universal Orlando is that they’re strict about their on-ride phone policy. Filming or photos are not allowed on board Universal Orlando rides and attractions. (That goes for us media, too!)

So if you were hoping to record Monsters Unchained and put it up on YouTube…don’t. You could get in big trouble! Instead, just rewatch the Universal ride POVs when you get home.
Lockers Are Everywhere
Many of the rides at Epic Universe require you to use lockers to store your belongings. Thankfully, the lockers here are bigger than those at the other Universal Orlando parks, so you should be able to fit your backpack a bit easier.

The lockers before boarding the attractions are complimentary while you ride, but if you need more storage space, there are even larger lockers that you can pay to rent throughout the park. In general though, we recommend packing a bit lighter for your Universal days so that you don’t have to struggle with loading and unloading the lockers.

Even though these rules can be frustrating, they help the park run smoothly and safely! Rules are important to make sure that everyone can have a good time.
