Ground Stop Issued at the Orlando International Airport That Could Delay Your Disney World Trip

Woah! If you’re flying in or out of the Orlando International Airport (MCO), you might want to check your flight status.

Orlando International Airport

Over 216 flights are delayed due to extreme weather in the area.

Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and Orlando International Airport are experiencing ground stops from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM EST, with the possibility of an extension.

These stops occurred because of severe thunderstorms in the area.

What does this mean if you’re flying to Orlando? Well, your flight may take off later than expected, which will delay your arrival in Orlando. If you know you’re going to be late, ensure your hotel is aware of the delay, reschedule any ground transportation, and adjust any other plans you may have for the evening, such as dinner reservations.

It’s unlikely that these delays will last all night, but you may spend some additional time at the airport as well. Now might be a great time to try out that restaurant you’ve been eyeing or take a walk to the far side of the airport for new snacks.

It’s also possible you could be stuck on the tarmac during your travels. We always like to make sure our devices are fully charged before heading to the plane, as well as having some non-electronic entertainment plans. Maybe you want to download a few more YouTube videos from your favorite channel, too (*wink, wink*).

We know delays are no fun during your travel day, especially when you’re SO excited to head to Disney World. Stay up to date by checking your airline’s website and app, as well as the National Airspace System Status, which provides updates for all airports.
