Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk are closed today, January 9th, due to the Southern California wildfires.

Much of the Los Angeles area is engulfed in flames, causing the theme park to shut down for safety reasons. This marks the second day in a row the parks have been closed, and a big reason is likely because of the park’s close proximity to the fires.
Universal had originally only announced its closure for one day, but due to the rapid spread of the wildfires, both the theme park and CityWalk have closed for a second day “out of an abundance of caution.”

Universal Studios Hollywood is about five miles from the center of the Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills, which you can see on the map below.

Essentially, Universal is right in the center of multiple different fires that are currently burning through the Los Angeles area.
For the latest updates from Universal Studios Hollywood, they are encouraging guests to continue to check their website.

According to ABC 7 Los Angeles, “Firefighters are battling several wildfires across Los Angeles County, including in the Pacific Palisades, San Gabriel Valley, Sylmar, and the Hollywood Hills.” Red flag warnings are still in effect and will remain so until 6 PM on Friday, January 10th, 2025, for the Malibu coast, the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, the San Gabriel Valley, the San Fernando Valley, Calabasas, the Santa Clarita Valley, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the 5 Freeway and 14 Freeway corridors.

As of now, Disneyland remains open as the park is around 35 miles from the closest fire in the Hollywood Hills, but we’ll let you know if that changes. Be sure to keep checking local emergency management news in your area if you’re local to the area.
