Is Disney World Crowded on Christmas?

Are you headed to the parks for Christmas and wondering just how busy the parks will be? The time between Christmas and New Year’s Day is often the busiest time of the year at the Disney World parks.

Many people are off for the holidays and choose to head to Disney World to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s with their families.

But what exactly does that mean? We are taking a look at what the crowds might look like at Disney World this year based on what we have seen in previous years. Currently, park reservations are sold out for Magic Kingdom from December 23rd through December 29th. However, all other parks are available during this time period.

Now let’s compare this to previous years. In 2023, park reservations were also sold out for Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day. However, the other parks were available. Last year, it was a dreary Christmas Day which we think kept away some of the crowds we usually see.

It wasn’t insanely busy, but wait times were definitely high, and we could feel the crowds throughout Magic Kingdom. Peter Pan’s Flight reached a wait time of 125 minutes, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train reached a wait time of 105 minutes. However, the wait times decreased significantly towards the end of the night, and most attractions did not have quite as high wait times as Peter Pan’s Flight or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

We were in Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on Christmas Day in 2022. This year, Christmas was a chillier day, and we were once again surprised by the lack of insane crowds. There were still long waits for some attractions, and we noticed crowds in indoor places like stores and restaurants, but we didn’t feel like we were packed sardines in the parks.

In fact, Christmas Day was one of the quieter days of the week in 2022. A few wait times hit two hours, but overall, wait times weren’t crazy.

So, don’t be afraid if you are headed to Disney World during Christmas! While it is one of the busiest times of the year,  you can still have lots of fun. Plus, the parks are decorated for the holidays, and you can check out many holiday exclusives. You can see Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade at Magic Kingdom, enjoy holiday entertainment at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, check out the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, and more!

Just be prepared for crowds and longer waits for some of the most popular attractions! Christmas Day crowds surprised us in the past two years by being less crazy than we were thinking, so maybe this year will follow suit?
