Here’s why we’re nervous about one particular upcoming date in Disney World.

As experienced Disney World travelers, we know that it’s important to keep an eye on a variety of things that can impact our vacation plans. That includes everything from special events to weather conditions. And one potential combination of those two factors has us feeling worried about one upcoming Disney World date.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th. During those six months of the year, Disney World faces an increased likelihood of inclement weather that could impact park and resort operations.

While the Atlantic hurricane season spans a total of six months, according to the NOAA, the peak of hurricane season is September 10th, with most activity occurring between mid-August and mid-October.

But the peak of hurricane season isn’t the only reason September 10th is a significant date in Disney World this year. Destination D23, the “Biggest Disney Fan Event of the year,” is also scheduled to take place at Disney’s Contemporary Resort from September 8th through September 10th.

The sold-out event is set to feature presentations from Disney historians, Imagineers, Cast Members, animators, and more. In previous years, these D23 events have also included some major announcements, like new restaurants, entertainment updates, product launches, and more.

With tickets to the event sold out, thousands of Disney fans will be traveling to Orlando for the weekend’s activities…which happen to line up with the peak of hurricane season.

In the case of previous severe hurricanes, there have been varying degrees of disruptions that have impacted Disney World guests, including flight cancellations, reduced park hours, and even park closures.
