The day all you west coasters have been waiting for is FINALLY here — MagicBand+ has arrived at Disneyland Resort!

Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland

Even though Disney World has had MagicBands for years, Disneyland Resort is just now jumping on the trend with the new MagicBand+. And today, we’re in the parks to check out the features of the bands and see how they work on the west coast!

What is MagicBand+?

Since we’ve never seen MagicBands at Disneyland Resort before, let’s start out with a simple explanation. MagicBand+ is a wristband that’s connected to your My Disneyland account (the account that you use to log into the Disneyland website or app). The MagicBand+ has a number of features, including acting as your park ticket, so that you can scan to enter the park and check in at Lightning Lane entrances.

In addition to its more basic features, Disney says that “MagicBand+ glows with color and pulses with haptic vibrations during World of Color, Fantasmic! and other select nighttime spectaculars.”

And one thing that has been highly anticipated is the new interactive game at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Batuu Bounty Hunters. You’ll need a MagicBand+ to play this game, during which you’ll seek out virtual bounties around the land.

There are a lot of features to check out, so let’s dive right in!

Purchasing MagicBand+

First of all, where do you buy a MagicBand+? There are several designs available on shopDisney, but the bands will also be sold in select stores around Disneyland Resort.

Pre-sale options at Disneyland

Starting today, Magic Key holders, Cast Members, and Disney Vacation Club Members are able to purchase MagicBand+ in Disneyland, and they will go on sale to everyone else beginning October 26th.

After you purchase your band, you’ll need to set it up. Here are the steps:

  1. Unbox your MagicBand+, turn it on with the power button, and tap the band to the back of your phone.
  2. You’ll be directed to download or open the Disneyland app.
  3. Follow the in-app instructions to link your MagicBand+. During this process, you’ll assign it to a ticket or pass and pair it with your phone. A MagicBand+ can only be assigned to one ticket or pass at a time.
  4. Use your band!

Now that all that is covered, it’s time to check out those features!

Features

MagicBand+ has a few exciting features, but one that we couldn’t wait to check out in Disneyland was the Batuu Bounty Hunters game in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! We grabbed our MagicBand+ and headed on over — but it looks like we weren’t the only ones.

People playing the Batuu Bounty Hunters game

There are multiple different spots throughout the land where you can interact with different stations using your MagicBand+ and look for virtual bounties.

Depending on the location you’re at, there might be different tasks and missions you have to complete. The Batuu Bounty Hunters game works with the Play Disney Parks app, so make sure you have that downloaded as well if you want to become a Bounty Hunter!

So there you have it — the official launch of MagicBand+ in Disneyland Resort! We’ll continue to check out any special effects that the band has as we visit the parks, so stay tuned for more updates. (And to see what new designs are released in the future!)
