There are many things that you prepare for when you plan a Disney World trip.

You have to plan the dates, grab park pass reservations, book flights, choose a hotel, and so much more. One thing that many people forget about when planning a Disney World trip is the hurricane season which, believe it or not, can impact Orlando. We’re here to let you know about some changes that are coming during the 2023 hurricane season.
This year’s hurricane season starts on June 1st and ends on November 30th. After each hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center and the World Meteorological Organization review what happened and what should change for next year, according to Spectrum News 13. So, we’re here to let you know about some changes that are coming during the 2023 hurricane season.
New Hurricane Names
You may know that a list of hurricane names is released ahead of each season, but there is a lot that goes into deciding these names. The World Meteorological Organization looks at which storms had the most damage or the most fatalities and decide which names to retire based on that.

Then new names are added to the list. This year, the hurricane season will use a list that was previously used in 2017 but a few including Irma and Harvey are now retired.

Four new names have been added to the 2023 lineup — Harold, Idalia, Margot, and Nigel.
Tropical Weather Outlooks
On or around May 15th, 2023, the National Hurricane Center will introduce a new format for Tropical Weather Outlooks. These are forecasts are used to show meteorologists and the public where potential storms could be.

Currently, the Tropical Weather Outlooks go out five days in advance, but that will increase to seven days in advance in May. These will be “highlighting areas in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea that may produce a storm within the next seven days.”

We’ll continue to bring you information as the 2023 hurricane season approaches since it can impact your Disney World trip. In 2022, Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Nicole caused the Disney World parks to close for a couple days — stay tuned to AllEars for more.
