When you’re visiting Walt Disney World, you can overhear a lot of interesting conversations if you’re listening closely.

And, sometimes you hear someone say something that makes you think “hey, that’s not true!” But, you might be surprised to learn how common some of the Disney World misconceptions are. Well, we’re here to set the record straight and debunk ten things that people still think are true about Disney World!
Here are 9 Misconceptions People STILL Think About Disney World But Definitely Aren’t True
You Can Buy Beer in Magic Kingdom
Many adults 21+ come to Disney World excited to enjoy a vacation in the parks with a nice helping of beer and cocktails. After all, you can literally drink around the world at EPCOT. But, there’s one place that doesn’t sell alcohol outside of sit-down restaurants — Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

The only place that you can find alcohol in this park is at select Table Service restaurants and even there you can only find beer, wine, and hard cider. This is because Walt Disney didn’t want alcohol sold in the parks, and Magic Kingdom has maintained that wish!
You Can Pay to Stay in Cinderella Castle
Ever wondered how much it costs to stay in the exclusive suite INSIDE of Cinderella Castle? Well, it’s actually priceless!

Many people believe that guests who get to stay in Cinderella Castle are paying for it or that only celebrities can access the royal suite, but that’s not true! Really the only way to stay in the suite is to win it through sweepstakes or other rare opportunities.
Yelling “Andy’s Coming” Makes Toy Story Characters Drop to the Ground
Way back in 2013, a photo of Woody, Jessie, and a Disney guest went viral on the internet with the caption, “If you yell ‘Andy’s coming!’ in front of the Toy Story characters at Disney, they will stop what they’re doing and drop.” Honestly, the idea is pretty cool for Disney fans because that’s exactly what Andy’s toys would do in the movies. But, this one isn’t true and never was.

The picture was staged at Disney World and the characters have only ever dropped to the ground for that one photo. It wouldn’t be very safe for the characters to drop to the ground and imagine how long you might wait in the meet-and-greet line if they were constantly dropping! But, to this day, you’ll still hear people yelling “Andy’s Coming” when you pass the characters in the park and nothing happens.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is Located in Disney World
Harry Potter fans looking for their letter from Hogwarts often end up in the wrong place thinking that Disney World is home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

You’ll actually need to travel outside of Walt Disney World to soak in all the wizarding magic. Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley are located at Universal Orlando with Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios.
Disney World is The Name of a Park
Another misconception that many people still believe is that Disney World is actually the name of Magic Kingdom. And — we get it — it can be confusing!

Walt Disney World is referring to the entire resort area and includes all 4 theme parks, water parks, hotels, and restaurants. And, Disney’s Magic Kingdom is one of the four parks that features Cinderella Castle as the icon.
Walt Disney is Cryogenically Frozen Somewhere in Disney
There are a lot of rumors out there about the man behind the mouse — Walt Disney. And, one that is still widely believed is that his body was cryogenically frozen and then buried in the Disney parks, with most people thinking that his body is buried underneath Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland Resort.

This rumor just isn’t true. Walt was cremated and his ashes were spread in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California and that is where he remains today.
It’s Just a Theme Park With Carnival Food
The next popular belief is that Disney World is just a theme park with sub-par food. The whole reason that Walt Disney set out to build his own theme parks was to differentiate from the carnivals and other theme parks that were popping up everywhere. You better believe that the food selection was an important thing to improve upon.

There are actually more than 200 dining locations in Disney World and each one serves up a selection of high-quality dishes. So, peanuts and cotton candy certainly won’t be the highlight of your snacking when you visit (unless you really love those).
Magic Kingdom is The Only Park Worth Visiting
Magic Kingdom gets a lot of credit when it comes to the park that everyone wants to visit. In fact, a lot of people still believe that it is the only park worth visiting on their vacation. But, that is cutting a ton of other great rides, restaurants, and experiences out of the picture.

The other three parks have a lot to offer to guests! You can travel to a galaxy far, far away in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, visit Pandora in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and make your way around the world in one day at EPCOT. If you’re only visiting Magic Kingdom, you’re missing out on a lot of the action!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a Half Day Park
Speaking of how great the other parks in Disney World are, Disney’s Animal Kingdom often gets a bad rep and is deemed a “half-day park.” So, people will plan to visit for a morning or the afternoon and then park hop somewhere else. But, four hours really isn’t enough time to take in all that Animal Kingdom has to offer.

The park is home to lots of exotic animals that you can see on walking trails or on the ride, Kilimanjaro Safaris. Plus, there’s DinoLand with carnival games and rides. And, then there’s Pandora — The World of Avatar where you could wait almost four hours just to ride the two new attractions in the land! If you’re only planning for a half-day in this park, you might not get to see all that much.

There is another misconception: People think Disney World is just for kids & it’s not. It’s for adults too.
The one about Walt being buried is not true either. He was actually CREMATED and his ASHES were spread over Forrest Lawn Memorial Park.
