After Disney announced that approximately 28,000 employees would be affected by massive layoffs in the Parks, Experiences and Products division, we’ve seen a number of more details and responses released regarding this situation.

Various unions have issued statements regarding the layoffs, and more information regarding who may be affected has been released. Now, we’ve got a more complete break-down of the situation.
According to ClickOrlando.com, powered by News 6, employers “are required by law to notify state and local leaders of mass layoffs under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification or WARN, Act.” Yesterday, Disney filed two “WARN” filings to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, and those are now available online.

Both notices were signed by Jim Bowden, Vice President of Employee Relations. The first notes that, “[d]ue to the continuing business impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, [Disney has] made the very difficult decision to reduce [their] workforce” and ultimately lay off 6,390 employees of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, U.S., Inc. The Cast Members affected by the layoffs, as described in this notice, break down as follows:
- 6,246 Employees with an office address associated with the Team Disney Building, which houses various departments including finance, legal, accounting, and more.
- 65 Employees at various administrative offices in Celebration, Florida.
- 49 Employees at Orlando International Airport.
- 22 Employees at a location that appears to be associated with WDW Creative Costuming.
- 8 Employees at an office address located at 5422 Carrier Way in Orlando.
These layoffs are set to begin on December 4th.

In the second notice Disney filed, they noted that 279 employees of DVD, Inc. are also set to be laid off on December 4th. Various office addresses within Celebration are identified as the locations where the impacted Cast Members were working. DVD, Inc. stands for Disney Vacation Development, Inc. and is associated with Disney Vacation Club.

You can read these filings in full at the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity website. This is a developing situation, so we will let you know if we hear of any more updates.
