BREAKING NEWS: SeaWorld Announces Their Proposed Reopening Date And Plan

In early May, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that in order to reopen, theme parks like Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld would need to submit their plans for approval first to the local government, followed by his own approval.

Universal Studios was the first to submit their plan last week, quickly having it approved for a reopening date of June 5th. Today, both Disney World and SeaWorld spoke with the Florida Orange County Task Force regarding a reopening date and plan.

In the task force meeting, SeaWorld announced their proposed plan and intended reopening date. SeaWorld has proposed June 10th for an Employee Appreciation Night and June 11th for the general public.

As part of their reopening plan, the theme park has proposed health and safety precautions such as increased sanitation, required face masks for both guests and team members, temperature screenings, and a reduced capacity upon reopening.

If a guest doesn’t have a face mask, they will be provided with face masks. Before entering the parks, both guests and employees will be required to undergo temperature screenings. Employees will also need to participate in training before going back to work.

An attendant will scan guests ticket behind a plexiglass shield to maintain contactless entry (without finger scanning). There will be social distancing markers on the ground and signage throughout the parks. There will also be distancing in animal viewing areas.

Sanitization of high-touch points like handrails and seating. Entertainment venues will have staggered seating, and there will be cleaning procedures after each viewing. There will be hand-sanitizer stations before and after each attraction, and enhanced sanitization of attractions.

There will be limited capacity in all theme parks, including the Discovery Cove theme park. There will be enhanced cleaning of rafts, tubes, and more. During this time, SeaWorld will be closely following guidelines and advice from professionals to change anything that is required.

The Orange County Task Force meeting included Marc Swanson, who is the Interim CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. Additionally, Kyle Miller, President of SeaWorld Orlando, and Brad Gilmour, Vice President of Operations for Discovery Cove, were both on hand.

This is a developing story, so stay tuned for updates from the proposed reopening of SeaWorld.
