Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, an action-adventure film which would see the superhero martial artist face off against infamous villain The Mandarin, has suspended production after director Destin Daniel Cretton (Glass Castle, Just Mercy) began self-isolation in response to the novel coronavirus.

The film, which was scheduled for release on February 12th, 2021, has been suspended until further notice as Cretton awaits the results of testing. No confirmed diagnosis has been made.
Cretton voluntarily elected to get tested out of an abundance of caution. As such, he has isolated himself for a week until he receives definitive test results, with Disney and Marvel suspending first unit production. Other aspects of production not-involving Cretton are moving on as scheduled.

The film will feature Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience) as the titular hero, facing off against The Mandarin, played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai (Hero). Unlike the Mandarin’s controversial depiction in Iron Man 3, this version of the infamous villain will be the real thing; not an imposter. The film represents the culmination of a storyline first teased in the 2013 film.
