Something Is MISSING From Disney World's MASSIVE Holiday News Drop

Disney just dropped a bunch of news about the holiday season at Disney World. Between Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, and Jollywood Nights, there are so many things to do at Christmastime!

However, we noticed one of our favorite holiday traditions at Disney World is missing from this year’s lineup…AGAIN.

In 2007, Disney World introduced the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights, which took place at 6:30 PM during the holiday season. This was an 8-minute show where the Fairy Godmother brought thousands of twinkling lights to life on the castle that would stay lit all night. Starting in 2014, it changed to a Frozen-themed show with Queen Elsa lighting the dreamlights.

The Castle Dream Lights didn’t reopen post-pandemic for winter 2020, and they have not returned since. Instead of returning for the 2020 holiday season, the Dream Lights were up in the air with no castle show until Disney announced a new show in 2023, Frozen Holiday Surprise. This new show features Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf decorating Cinderella Castle for Christmas, and Elsa lights up the castle into a shimmering ice palace for the grand finale, which stays lit all night.

Since Frozen Holiday Surprise is now a permanent addition to the holiday season for three years in a row, Disney seems to have retired the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights. While Disney hasn’t officially announced a reason for the permanent closure, our team of Disney experts is pretty sure it’s a cost issue. For starters, it takes a massive team to install thousands of string lights in one night, while the labor required to install projections is minimal. Plus, they would have to completely rework the projection mapping for returning shows like Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks, which would cost even more money.
