If you’re planning on heading to Disney World in 2025 or early 2026, you’ll want to note these rides that will be closed.

Planning a Disney World vacation takes strategy, and nothing can throw off your plans faster than finding out your must-do ride is closed for refurbishment. From beloved classics getting a refresh to major overhauls that won’t be finished until next year, closures are part of the Disney experience. If you’re heading to the parks soon, here’s every single Disney World ride that will remain closed until 2026 so you can plan around them!
Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom is currently closed for refurbishment and will be closed for a portion of 2026. Disney has not given a reopening date for the ride just yet, but they did share some information on what we can expect to see when it does reopen.

The ride vehicles are getting a color update to match Star Command colors. The new vehicles will feature real-time tracking of the scores and will also feature handheld blasters to make shooting targets even easier. The blasters will even react when you hit a target!

We will also see Buddy the robot, who is joining the attraction as a new character. Buddy will be in a brand-new scene at the start of the ride, where he will teach you how to play the game!
Big Thunder Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed on January 6th, 2025, to make way for a new, refurbished version of the ride. The ride will be closed for part of 2026, and we don’t have an exact reopening date just yet.

One of the new additions we’re REALLY looking forward to is the addition of the Rainbow Caverns inside the ride! These will be “spectacular natural caverns full of phosphorescent pools, shimmering and illuminating iridescent stalagmites (the ones on the floor) and stalactites (the ones on the ceiling)” but they won’t just be pretty to look at. Disney has told us that they’re not as friendly as they first appear — a “menacing rumble from deep within the mountain may be a sign that we ain’t welcome.”

The plot of this ride has been revamped, with Disney saying, “The story of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad dates back to Olden Times, or rather, Golden Times, during the early days of America’s first major gold rush. When Barnabas T. Bullion struck gold in the Big Thunder region, he saw a future full of riches and hustled to start the Big Thunder Mountain Company.” However, “Bullion quickly found himself in a battle with the forces of nature”, and then “strange and unexplainable things started happening” in the mine. We can’t wait to see what is in store when it reopens.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
The Muppets are all set to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We don’t have a date for when the ride will close for refurbishment, but we expect it will be closed for a portion of it in 2026.

The ride will start with Electric Mayhem, who are headlining their biggest concert EVER. There’s just one big problem — no one knows where the band is. Meanwhile, G-Force Records will be looking a little different because the Muppets have officially taken over, with some help from Scooter’s uncle, real estate tycoon and owner of the Muppet Theatre, J.P. Grosse.

You’ll get some help from friends at Muppet Labs and a fast limo to “take a twisting, turning, and screamingly fun road trip across Hollywood to reach the concert in time” while passing some iconic scenery and landmarks, which have all been given a Muppets twist, of course.
Dinosaur
Dinosaur fans, this one is going to sting. After nearly three decades at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, DINOSAUR will permanently close on February 2nd, 2026. This means the very last chance to ride will be February 1st, so if you love this blast-from-the-past thrill ride, you’ll want to make time before the doors shut for good.

So what’s coming next? The track layout and ride system were originally cloned from Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure. Now, Disney is closing the loop by transforming the ride into an all-new Indiana Jones attraction, debuting as part of the park’s brand-new Tropical Americas land in 2027.
