Taking the little train in between gates at the Orlando International Airport is one of my favorite parts of the travel process (we have an even cooler one in Atlanta called the Plane Train…just saying!). Nobody says, “Welcome to Orlando” like Mayor Buddy Dyer.

Well, whether you enjoy taking it or not, a change is coming to the Gate Link later this year. This new project will REALLY affect the time it takes to get to your gate, so be prepared for longer waits as you navigate the airport.
Orlando International Airport has announced that it will replace the Gate Link vehicles, tracks, and electrical control equipment. The current system has transported passengers over 5 million miles, which is equivalent to about 200 times around the Earth!

This project will come in phases, so as not to close the whole Gate Link at one time, and not all Gate Link vehicles will be taken out at the same time. Each of the Gate Link vehicles will be taken out of service in succession, limiting capacity for the following periods of time:
- Gates 100-129 from December 2025 to December 2026 (impacting Avelo and Southwest flights)
- Gates 70-99 from December 2026 to October 2027 (impacting Air Canada, Air Transat, Bahamasair, BermudAir, Delta, Flair, Frontier, LATAM, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, Viva, Volaris, and WestJet flights)

During these times, it may be necessary to take the Gate Link to the other Gate Area and then be transported between Gate Areas by bus. This will take more time than usual, so you’ll want to allow additional travel time if you know your flight will be affected.

We’ll be sure to remind you of these changes closer to the beginning of the process, too, but if you know you’ll be traveling through this airport sometime in 2026 and 2027, you may want to make a note for yourself!

I’m pleasantly surprised to see that United Airlines will remain unaffected by these renovations, as they didn’t appear on the list of affected airlines.
