In early July, Tom Sawyer Island, the Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat were permanently closed to make way for the new Cars expansion.
I’ve been keeping an eye on this project for a few weeks to see how it’s progressing, and based on new aerial shots, it appears that the Liberty Belle might be finding a new home.
When the riverboat closed down, fans were concerned about where the boat would go since it was an iconic part of Magic Kingdom history, and with the draining of the Rivers of America, where would our favorite ship go?
Thanks to Bioreconstruct on X, it appears that the Liberty Belle is being relocated to a different area backstage. The area it was initially in has been drained, so they moved the boat over, along with a few Tom Sawyer rafts.
The reason this is so interesting is that, if they had plans to dismantle the boat, it would make sense to do it in the service canal before taking the pieces to different areas. The ship is still intact after about three weeks of the attraction being permanently shut down.
Of course, Disney could still decide to take the ship apart here, but we’ve seen Disney start working on current projects almost immediately after the walls are put up. Areas like Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios have undergone extensive work as soon as the final Cast Member party ended.
With other aerial shots from Bioreconstruct, we can see that they’re already working on the space for the new roller coaster in the Monsters, Inc. land.
Disney has not provided an opening timeline for the Cars land, which will be known as Piston Peak in Magic Kingdom.
There will be two attractions: one is a thrilling off-road ride, and the other is more family-friendly and suitable for the youngest drivers in the group.

The Liberty Belle could be used to transport guests from the new Lakeside Lodge and the resorts already around Bay Lake, Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and Contemporary. The boats currently in use are already busy AND not very big, so the Liberty Belle would surely benefit guests AND keep the Magic alive!
Make it into a restaurant.
Make it in to a market where people can purchase quick eats and have tables on each level for eating and relaxation. Not sure if space is big enough, on left of the castle when facing it from the front the water way closest to liberty square.
