Walmart has over 4,000 stores open to the public across the United States, and now they’re adding more locations. But, regular shoppers won’t be able to go inside. These new “dark stores” are expected to pop up in certain markets, like Dallas, and near the company’s headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas.

A dark store refers to a location that houses inventory, but remains closed to the public. The stores may look similar to a regular Walmart inside, but the goal is meant to expedite the ordering process, acting as mini distribution centers with the most commonly ordered products.

For customers, this means a faster shopping experience that will help prevent long delivery wait times. As of now, there’s no official word on when more Walmart dark stores will be opening, but we’ll be on the lookout for updates.

Walmart isn’t the only retailer to open dark stores like this, either. Kroger has opened dark stores in markets where there are no physical retail locations (like Orlando!), allowing them to still offer their products and services to customers.

You can get your own groceries delivered to your resort by using Kroger Grocery delivery!

We love using Kroger Delivery — especially when we’re at Disney World! It’s especially easy with the Kroger app.

Once you make your selections and have everything in your cart, you can set a time you want your order to be delivered and add delivery instructions, then check out. There is a small delivery fee of $9.95 ($6.95 if you get delivery Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday!) unless you have a Kroger Boost membership, then delivery is free.

Don’t forget the water!

And, while you won’t find Kroger supermarkets in Central Florida, Kroger has a fulfillment center or dark store where you can get deliveries straight to your Disney World hotel! This is a great way to get those essentials you decided didn’t fit in your bag at a low cost and efficient way.
