We have great news for those obsessed with Brightline Florida, the high-speed train that runs from Orlando to Miami. It’s getting one step closer to expanding!
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Brightline is currently looking at borrowing $400 million to help fund the first phase of the expansion from the Orlando International Airport to Tampa.
There are currently routes between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando, with the longest trip being from Orlando to Miami, approximately 3.5 hours.
The $400 million Brightline wants to borrow would go to “design, development, acquisition, and construction” of the rail system to Tampa. Between the Orlando airport and downtown Tampa, the drive usually takes about two hours, whereas the train would take about an hour.
The Hillsborough Transportation Planning Organization is currently planning out downtown Tampa locations for the station. The station in Orlando will be at the Orlando International Airport, making it easier for travelers in Tampa to get to the airport as well as use ground transportation from the airport to Disney World.
The Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission is looking at adding a train from the airport to Disney World and Universal Orlando. This can be great for those flying into the Orlando Airport or those who took the train from Tampa to Orlando!
