You may know about Prime Video, Amazon’s popular streaming service, but did you know Amazon also has another streaming service called Freevee? Well, that won’t be the case for long, as it’s just been announced that the service will be discontinued next month.

According to CNBC, Amazon will discontinue its standalone free streaming TV service and consolidate its offerings with Prime Video in August. Freevee launched in 2019 under IMDb, and it provided free, ad-supported options, including original series and some Prime Video content.

However, there is some good news here! Freevee users “will be able to watch shows and movies on Prime Video for free without a subscription to Amazon’s Prime loyalty program,” according to a notice that was sent out to consumers. Prime Video introduced ads in January 2024, and you can get access to Prime Video with a $15-a-month Prime membership, or as a stand-alone service for $9. If you don’t want ads, you can pay an additional $2 a month.

At this time, there’s no official shutdown date for the service, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated. The Freevee app will officially shut down in August.
