It’s been a BIG day of Disney news, and we’re obsessed with all the details we’re getting for the new Cars-themed area coming to Disney World.

The new area officially has a name, Piston Peak (which means we can officially stop calling it the Cars-themed area), and Disney dropped a new map of the land.
Welcome to Piston Peak!

This area will be heavily themed around National Parks. This goes back to the early Disney days when Bryce Canyon National Park initially inspired Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Piston Peak is named after the fictional park, Piston Peak National Park, from the 2014 Planes: Fire & Rescue movie. While the movie’s setting was based on Yosemite and Yellowstone, the land in Magic Kingdom takes big inspiration from Rocky Mountain National Park.

Piston Peak is taking over Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America, which will be closing on July 7th. On the map, you can see Big Thunder Mountain and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which continue the rocky elements.

If you look closely, you may notice the new rides. The big attraction will welcome guests into an off-roading vehicle to race through the mountains on wild terrain. You’ll want to avoid geysers and mud holes as you ride!

Each vehicle in this attraction will have its own personality, name, and number, and Disney has tried to recreate the feeling of off-roading as much as possible.

On the map, we can see water features which remind us of the Rivers of America. While these do not replace the whole river, it’s still nice to see water elements incorporated.

There are no current timelines for the project, except for the closure of Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat on July 7th, making July 6th the last day to enjoy them.
We’re going to be keeping an eye on Piston Peak as it starts to be built, and in the meantime, make sure you’re following AllEars for all the details as soon as they drop.
