Netflix recently rolled out a new option for viewers who prefer to watch content with subtitles.

When it comes to streaming services, Netflix is one of the go-to choices for both original content and classic favorites. And the streaming service recently announced they’re adding a new option to make the viewing experience even better.
Earlier this week, Netflix launched a new subtitle option that allows the viewer to watch content with original language subtitles that only show the spoken dialogue without audio cues.

Up to this point, viewers looking for content with subtitles in the original language had to select the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH/CC) option. The SDH/CC subtitle option — which will still be available as well — includes dialogue subtitles, plus audio cues, like “phone buzzing,” and other notations like song titles and speaker names.

The new subtitle preference will be available in every language that Netflix offers, in addition to the original SDH/CC option. Plus, viewers can also customize the font in which subtitles are shown.

Leading up to the change, Netflix had taken notice of the widespread viewer preference for watching content with subtitles, revealing that nearly half of all viewing hours on its platform in the US occur with subtitles or captions on.

The new dialogue-only subtitle feature made its debut with the fifth and final season of the streaming giant’s series You, which was released on Thursday, April 24th, and will be available for all new Netflix originals going forward.

We’ll continue to be on the lookout for more big news across all the major streaming platforms, so stay tuned to AllEars for the latest entertainment updates.
