FULL REVIEW: Pizza Moon at Epic Universe

Planning a trip to Epic Universe soon and not sure which of Universal’s newest restaurants you should stop to eat at while you’re there? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place!

PIzza Moon entrance

We’ve made it our mission here at AllEars to be the Epicxperts of Universal’s new park and that includes the food! So we’re checking out the newest restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by Pizza Moon at Epic Universe, and we’re giving you our FULL review!

Background

When it was first announced, Universal teased that this unique restaurant would “serve up a tasty menu featuring a variety of pizzas.” However, when pictures of menu items that would await us inside Epic Universe were finally shared, we discovered there would be so much more to Pizza Moon and pizza was just scratching the surface of what it’s capable of.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

As you approach Pizza Moon, you’ll immediately be drawn in by its vintage look and cartoonish appeal. You’ll find Pizza Moon within Celestial Park, the first world you’ll walk through as you enter Epic Universe. In fact, if you keep to the left at the entrance from the Chronos, just between Super Nintendo World and Dark Universe, you’ll have a hard time missing it. As you step inside, you’ll find it’s like stepping into an early 1900s Victorian theater converted into a spectacular eatery. The vibes it gives are very much like Panic! At The Disco in their early days feel, bordering on an almost steampunk offset. We’re pretty sure our mouths hung wide open from its beautiful imagery from the moment we set foot in the restaurant and how it framed the restaurant like the inside of an old camera.

This certainly sets the tone of quirkiness

You’ll notice some extra seating outside in case you want to take in the relaxing feel of Celestial Park, but inside there’s plenty of booth seating, along with individual tables and chairs, and even a few smaller tables for smaller parties and solo travelers.

There’s an ordering station available where a Team Member can help take your order, or if you prefer, find your seating and scan the QR code found in the center of the table to place your order in the Universal app.

Welcome to Pizza Moon

This will also tell the Team Members which table you’re seated at, so they can bring your food out to you as it’s prepared. Soft drinks are provided through self-service Coca-Cola Freestyle machines and work with an active refillable souvenir mug, as well as other stations around the park.

Incredible theming

As you glance out to the back of the restaurant, you’ll notice a bit of the kitchen is open and visible, allowing you to see when your food is prepared and ready to be delivered to each table.

However, your eyes will most likely be drawn to the moving artwork that sits just above it. We could seriously watch it for hours and never get tired!

The rocket is actually a pizza oven

Although a basic cheese pie to the works is their specialty here (hence the name), there’s so much more that awaits you on the menu. Here’s a look at what you can expect to order.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you, but Pizza Moon totes that their pizza pie flavors are out of this world, and just glancing at names like Hala Kahiki Mahina…

Space Cowboy, and A Trip To Vesuvio, we think we should take them at face value!

Pizza’s not all they serve here, though! They’ve got a few pasta options and salads.

And even a couple of desserts to choose from! Such a heavy decision with choices that look like these.

Beverages include soda (and yes, you can order the souvenir refillable cups here, too), milk, bottled water, orange juice, and draft beers.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the full Space Cowboy for $18.99. This pie is made of BBQ sauce, rotisserie chicken, pickled red onion, Castelvetrano olives, and BBQ potato chips.

Space Cowboy pizza

Yeah, we warned you this place marched to the beat of its own drum! However, we thought this was one where they probably should have fallen in line with the rest of the cosmos because it felt like it was trying a little too hard. When we bit into the pizza slices, we mostly tasted barbecue and not much of the other normal pizza flavors (where’s the cheese, man?) Try as it might, the pickled red onion added a little extra flavor, but just couldn’t shine bright enough over the powerful sweet barbecue flavor, which was more overwhelming than accentuating at times.

Heavy on the barbecue

But it’s not all hum-drum for this one! We enjoyed the nice brick oven style pizza crust this pizza has, which also gives it a touch of charring to the bottom. The potato chips were mostly for decoration and added a fun crunch, but again, because they were barbecue flavor, that just compounded what we already had a hard time breaking through taste-wise. This pizza pie might be a true enigma to you. You might find that you eat it all, and then wonder what it was about it that made you scarf it down so hastily.

We had to try out a dessert, so we picked up the Brownie Eclipse for $11.99, too! This dessert is made of a warm gooey brownie with Nutella, toasted marshmallows, and crushed OREO.

Brownie Eclipse

You’ve got to have quite the sweet tooth craving to tackle this baddie, but it’s so worth it! When we cut into it, we could tell we were in for a chocolatey sweet brownie overload when the texture gave more of a half-baked feel with such a gooey, warm center with creamy marshmallows, bits of crunchy OREO, and notes of hazelnut in the Nutella.

A chocolate lover’s dream

We LOVED this one, and if we had it to do all over again, we’re not certain we’d be so willing to share — it’s ok to be selfish with this one.

Magic or Tragic?

Rocket over to Pizza Moon if…

  • Unique and zany is your vibe. Why have normal boring pizza when you can have so much more flavor to it all? The sky’s the limit to what you’ll taste here.
  • You’re looking for a meal that won’t keep you down for long. This is one of Epic Universe’s quick service restaurants, so if you’re looking for a filling meal that won’t hold you up from autopilot for long, this is a great option.
  • You’re looking for one of the best sweets in all of the “universe”. Even if you don’t fall head over heels for the pizza pies here, pilot your sweet tooth’s ship over for a Brownie Eclipse at least.

Set course for another spot if…

  • You tend to stick to the status quo when it comes to pizza pies. Pizza Moon offers typical pizza flavors like cheese and pepperoni for those who are less adventurous, but we’re not sure that’s really the flavors they’re aiming to showcase here.
  • You want a meal somewhere with a little more variety. If you’re looking to sit down for a meal where you’ll be waited on from start to finish with a lengthier menu, we think you’d do better choosing to dine somewhere else.
  • Quirky just isn’t your kind of fun. We get it — the lighthearted theming in this restaurant may appeal to a niche audience, and if it’s not quite your calling, then abort mission.
