Disney’s Latest Ride Announcement Might Actually Convince Me to Fly Across the Country

It’s an exciting time to be a Disney adult right now — but made all the better if you’re a Disney Adult who’s willing to travel!

Disney’s teased several upcoming projects, from new ships getting ready to join the fleet to new lands in the parks, and even started construction in some areas of the parks. As excited as I was to hear about all of the Disney announcements during this year’s SXSW conference, there was one in particular that really caught my interest.

During this year’s SXSW conference Disney gave us an inside peek into the eyes of their Imagineers and brought their A-game to put on displays of new tech and innovation coming to the parks. To say I was completely captivated was an understatement, but one announcement piqued my interest in a way that might have me stretching out my flying wings sooner than I imagined.

Selfie Time!

As an Orlando local, Disney World is my most well traveled of the Disney parks, but its MARVEL super hero presence in the parks pales in comparison to Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus.

Avengers Campus

This place is like the mecca for MARVEL superhero enthusiasts as as a kid (at heart) who loves her supers, its hard not having this kind of experience nearby (don’t worry, I DON’T take Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind for granted). There are superheroes that surround you throughout the land, eats and drinks themed like they lept right off the pages of the comics, and so much more to explore. I could already spend an entire day in this park. But even that wasn’t enough to make me pony up the funds to race out there and finally see it in person.

But this latest announcement could have me screaming “I love you 3000” to all of them in person sooner than I thought. During this conference, Disney revealed plans (and we even got video) of a new ride coming to Avengers Campus’ expansion, and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure park will double in size with the addition of Avengers: Infinity Defense and a newly announced attraction Stark Flight Lab. (@Disney)

Stark Flight Lab is where you’ll find yourself INSIDE Tony Stark’s Lab as you become part of a simulated flight. We’ll finally get to feel what it’s like to fly around like Iron Man via a robotic arm (kinda like DUM-E). In flight, you’ll be subject to a test flight experiment where no (non-super) human has ever gone before!

I could look at this sneak peek of the ride for hours, and if it’s even half as good as Disney’s set the expectation for it to be, it could end up being breaking ground for future projects. Disney’s Imagineering even used real human motion capture to perfect the movements in the robotic arms that will move the ride vehicles…

…and we might have a chance to run into Mr. Stark if we’re lucky!

Now I’m faced with a problem, but albeit a good problem to have…when do I need to get myself over to DCA to be one of the first to experience this attraction when it opens? Disney hasn’t revealed any date on when we can expect this new ride to open, but until then, I’ll be ready and waiting to book my flight and tickets to head to California!
