Universal Canceled 2 BIG Projects for Islands of Adventure

We love Islands of Adventure as it is today, with its Jurassic Park and Marvel Super Hero Island, but when it was initially designed in 1999, there were many differences.

Check out these two projects, which were almost at Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando!

Islands of Adventure was initially supposed to be Cartoon World, where every area was based on cartoons. Can you imagine not having Hogsmeade?

Universal was planning on working with Warner Brothers for their rights to DC Comics, but that deal eventually fell through, rumored to be because of a difference in royalty fees. Universal ended up working with Marvel, and Warner went to give the DC rights to Six Flags.

Some incredible rides were originally introduced for DC, so let’s take a look at what could have been!

1. Superman at the Daily Planet

This was originally supposed to be a motion simulator with Superman through the Daily Planet newspaper office. Does that sound familiar? It was turned into The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, which is a motion simulator that starts you in the Daily Buegle newspaper building.

2. Batman and the Penguin

There was planned to be a duel-track roller coaster between Batman and the Penguin! Guests would choose between hopping in the Batwing or PenWing and viewing the Batcave and Penguin’s Liar in the queue.

  1. Warner bros bought and owned six flags in the 90s. Batman the ride was introduced to six flags in 1993, the year Warner bought six flags. Since Warner already owned DC comics, it was obvious that they would use six flags rather than licensing it out to another company.
