We went inside Epic Universe!

Universal’s brand-new theme park opens on May 22nd, 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited! The theme park is bringing new lands like Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and more! We stepped inside for a preview and tried 6 different snacks that we’re breaking down here.

Epic Universe is almost open and we are on the edge of our seats! One of our reporters got to step inside during a Team Member preview and while we couldn’t get any of our own pictures, we do have plenty of thoughts and notes to share!

We spent a ton of time testing out the rides, seeing the shows, meeting characters, and, of course trying the food. If you want to see a play-by-play of the day, you can read our full post here! Starting off with our day, we went into How To Train Your Dragon: The Isle of Berk.

We stopped by the How To Treat Your Dragon merchandise store where we tested out two birthday cake cake pops! The kids in our group loved these! They were massive (about the size of the palm of our hand) and were about an inch thick.

They each had an edible picture of one of the Vikings’ Wooden Shields on them. They were nice and sweet but pretty heavy! The Team Members encouraged us to hold the wrapper underneath the cake pops to support them because they will fall off the stick.

We did start our day off with this lovely sweet treat (the kids couldn’t have been more excited) but our second stop is where we really put the new Epic Universe food to the test. We went into Celestial Park to try The Oak & Star Tavern!

The Oak & Star Tavern is a quick service in this land where you can “gather with family or friends round the fiery hearth of an ancient, starlight-filled oak tree.” Inside the quick service you’ll also find The Plastered Owl Bar where you can get alcoholic beverages.

We tested out a few items but we are going to save our absolute favorite for last! At this quick service, you can grab a two-meat platter, sandwich, salad, or other barbecue-inspired items. We started off one of the two meat platters with brisket, pulled pork, and a side of baked beans!

The baked beans were nice and heavy with a meaty flavor that paired well with the meats on the plate. They were a great way to get full! The brisket and pulled pork were nice and familiar. The meals also came with four different sauces. It was a sweet barbeque, tropical gold, harissa, and huli huli sauce which all added different elements to the meat. Our personal favorite was the tropical gold because of the surprising sweetness!

The kids in the group slip one of the platters with grilled chicken and crinkle-cut fries. They really enjoyed the half-cut chicken and said that the fries reminded them of a barbecue chip thanks to the flavoring. (Our reporter agreed with them!) The platter was big enough for two kids to share or enough for one adult to get really full on.

Finally, it was the Mango Bread that was the star of the show here. Our reporter stressed, if you get anything in Epic Universe, make sure it’s this bread! It was slightly sticky on the outside with a really nice subtle mango flavor inside. There is a nice flavorful spice as well but not in a heat sense. We are shouting the praises of the mango bread!

Epic Universe!

We are just scratching the surface of the foods in Epic Universe and can’t wait to see what we get to test the next time we’re in the park. As always, make sure to keep following AllEars for all of your Universal updates and news!
