This is a big win for me, specifically.

There are tons of changes happening in Disney World this year. We’ve started saying goodbye to DinoLand U.S.A., a new nighttime parade is coming soon, and there are several ride closures. One of these ride closures I am weirdly excited about.
Before we dive into this, I will go ahead and put a disclaimer here that what I’m about to share is probably not a popular opinion but it is news that will impact your Disney World trip. Starting today, January 13th, Astro Orbiter is closed for refurbishment!

The attraction is planning to reopen sometime this summer although Disney hasn’t announced an exact date for it just yet. This popular ride in Magic Kingdom is a Dumbo-style flying attraction on top of the PeopleMover which might sound really fun and incredible until you realize just how high up you are.

As someone who is scared of heights, this ride is my personal nightmare. It goes much faster than you think and you can see all of Magic Kingdom which is really neat… until you realize you can see all of Magic Kingdom. I have been on this ride a total of three times in my life. Once for fun and two other times for this cool job I have.

Those three times were plenty for me and if I can help it, I won’t be riding high in the sky on a rocket any time soon. Several people might be disappointed that this ride will be closed for several months, and I respect your sadness, but I am thrilled. This means that no matter what crazy challenges the AllEars Team might face in the parks, facing my fear of this height isn’t one of them.

This ride can see some pretty high wait times so it will be interesting to see how this impacts the flow of the park considering Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also closed for a length refurbishment.

This is my formal apology for being excited about a ride closure but I won’t feel too bad about it. Don’t forget to keep following AllEars for more of your Disney news and updates!

My preschooler LOVES this ride and I’m afraid of heights like Emma. Secretly cheering it will be closed during our March visit!! 🤷🏻♀️🤗
