The Unfortunate Not-So-Surprising Trend We’re Seeing in Disney World Right Now

Construction projects are pretty common in Disney World.

EPCOT

From major updates like new rides and new lands to smaller changes like refreshed paint jobs or re-poured concrete, we’ve seen construction walls and scrim pop up all over the parks in the past. Sometimes, these projects are completed in a timely manner, and other times, they seem to drag on FOREVER. That’s the list we’ve rounded up today — the construction projects in Disney World that are taking their sweet time.

Pinocchio Village Haus Bathrooms

First of all, we’ve got to mention the Pinocchio Village Haus bathrooms in Magic Kingdom. These have been closed for ages, making you travel to other parts of Fantasyland to find a restroom when you’re in need.

Typically, bathroom projects don’t take quite as long as this one has, so we’ve been pretty surprised when we stop by visit after visit to find construction walls up. What gives, Disney?

Woody’s Lunch Box Seating Area

For the past few years, construction has been crowding the exit to Toy Story Mania. At first, it was the revamp of the gift shop there, but nowadays, it’s all related to Woody’s Lunch Box. The restaurant building was expanded, and now Disney has launched into a lengthy project to update the seating area.

Construction has been going on forever!

It seems like we’ve had hedges and scrim up around this restaurant for AGES, and it’s limiting seating in an already low-seating area of the park. Really what we want over here is a lot more shade, amirite?!

Animation Courtyard

Another Hollywood Studios project that we’ve seen drag on is Animation Courtyard. Since the pandemic, three gift shops have been closed over here, along with the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show. The good news is that a new show is coming to the theater — The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure. However, it was originally supposed to debut in the fall of 2024, and has now been pushed back to summer 2025.

With Star Wars: Launch Bay, Disney Junior Play and Dance!, and a few character meets as the only attractions in this area, it feels a little deserted these days. Animation Courtyard and Hollywood Studios deserve better!

Honorable Mention: The PLAY! Pavilion

Of course, we couldn’t talk about long suffering construction without mentioning the PLAY! Pavilion that was announced for EPCOT. This was first talked about YEARS ago to replace the Wonders of Life Pavilion, but construction stalled after the pandemic and Disney hasn’t shared any updates on the project since.

Nothing happening here

We’re left wondering if it has truly been canceled or if we’ll see the project revived one day. For now, there’s an empty building in World Celebration.

There you have it — the construction project trend that we haven’t really loved! Here’s to hoping Disney kicks things into gear with these new lands coming to Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. We don’t want to be waiting forever!

  1. Ok, so I’m old. I remember my excitement watching The Wonderful World of Color on Sunday nights when Disneyland first opened. Am I the only one who mourns what I considered classic rides that taught a life lesson? ” It’s a small world after all”? Disney ethos has changed so much, no interest in taking the grandkids.
