August is going to be a big month in terms of announcements coming from Disney! Disney will be dropping huge news at the upcoming D23 2024 Ultimate Disney Fan Event starting on August 9th. But just days before the biggest fan event of the year, on August 7th, Disney will hold its Quarter 3 earnings call.

These calls are meant to offer a glimpse into the company’s operations for the shareholders. CEO Bob Iger and other company executives will share their insight into how the company is doing financially. Typically, we also hear some HUGE news about what’s to come. While Disney may be waiting to share the majority of its big news for the D23 event, we still think we’ll get some new details on two important topics!
VENU
Disney has been talking about ESPN and the company’s goals for the entertainment platform for quite a while. It seems that Disney, as the owner of ESPN, has some BIG plans for it.

ESPN and streaming have become big talking points during the quarterly earnings calls, and we know that Disney continues to look toward the future of sports streaming. Back in May, we heard that a sports-focused streaming app that ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros had partnered to create was coming later this year. We found out that this new app would be called Venu, and it would be a streamlined platform for sports.

At this point, the website, Venu.com, is up, but nothing is available on it yet as it needed to receive regulatory approval and the companies had to finalize an agreement. However, we won’t be surprised if we hear an update on how this new app is coming along and potentially even a start date for when we’ll finally get to watch our favorite games all in one place.
ESPN Tile On Disney+
Since ESPN and streaming are such popular topics for Iger to discuss, there’s another announcement we’re expecting him to make. During the Quarter 2 earnings call in May, a new ESPN tile was announced for Disney+. This means that U.S. Disney+ subscribers would have access to select live sports games right from the Disney+ app.

This would act a lot like how the Hulu tile and content currently perform on Disney+, and it would be a big benefit to subscribers. We know that this new tile will be available by the end of 2024, but we wonder if we could get an official launching date during this quarter’s call.

We know TONS of Disney news is coming in August, and we can’t wait to hear it all! We’ll be keeping you updated live during the quarterly earnings call on August 7th as well as bringing you live updates during the D23 event in Anaheim from August 9th through the 11th. So mark your calendars for these big dates, because you won’t want to miss any of it!
