NEWS: Disney Announced a NEW Musical Premiering Next Summer

An animated classic Disney film from the 90s is coming to the stage!

We’re constantly covering new shows coming to the Disney Parks and Disney movies being released worldwide, but it’s not every day we get to report a NEW Disney stage show — which is exactly what Disney recently announced! This new production is based on the beloved animated classic Hercules and we’ve got a ton of details to share!

According to Disney on Stage, Hercules: The Heroic New Musical is set to debut at London’s West End next year!

The new show is a stage adaptation of the 1997 animated film and will premiere at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London’s West End during the summer of 2025.

While an exact premiere date and cast have yet to be formally announced, the Disney Theatrical Group confirmed the show will be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw with music and lyrics by Alan Menken and David Zippel — who both worked on the 1997 Academy Award-nominated film.

Hercules will also feature “a brand-new book by Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah and co-choreography by Tanisha Scott,” according to Disney.

In its reveal, Disney on Stage also teased what we might expect from the new show with the 2023 performances of “Go the Distance” and “Zero to Hero” from that year’s Royal Variety Performance. The video, which can be viewed below, was part of the Disney on Stage Medley and featured Hercules and the famous muses.

Hercules will join other Disney stage shows in the UK, including The Lion King, Aladdin, and Frozen: The West End Musical. Frozen is currently playing at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Hercules’ future home, and is scheduled to have its final performance on September 8th, 2024.
