Disney’s Hollywood Studios may have more thrill rides than any other Disney World park, but it’s not really known for its food.

Don’t get me wrong — there are some GREAT options in the park that I, and many others, adore. The Ronto Wrap is a must for me every visit, I’m a sucker for the Totchos at Woody’s Lunch Box, and while I don’t drink coffee, I know the Black Caf Cold Brew is good enough to fight someone for. But when it comes to table service dining, this park struggles a bit for a variety of different reasons. And one of the biggest victims of this table-service-slander is none other than Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre.
Now let me be clear — when I ate here, 089I had a good time! Having a background in film and TV both in front of the camera and behind meant that the theming of this restaurant was really alluring to me, and the menu had some basic Disney/theme park food that my picky self would like.

However, a LOT of people don’t feel the same about this restaurant. One of the recent reviews we’ve gotten here on AllEars sums it up pretty well — “Nice concept, but a weird vibe.”

The concept of this restaurant IS really cool — it’s like you’re eating in an old, indoor drive-in theater! On the big screen you’ll see clips from classic science fiction films playing in a loop. There are only a few clips, so you’ll likely see the same ones play at least 3 times while you’re eating.

There are picnic tables in the back, but the coveted spots are sitting in the cars parked at the drive-in! But here’s where one of the biggest problems come into play — each car has 3 bench seats with 2 people fitting in each row. So if you’ve got a group of 5, someone will have to sit by themselves, and any group over 3 is going to have a hard time talking to each other.

This is fine if you’ve only got a group of 2 because you’ll be seated right next to each other, but unless you’re seated at a picnic table, larger groups likely won’t be a fan of the seating arrangement here.

And I mentioned the food before, but the truth here is that the food is not going to wow you. It’s your classic Disney theme park food done decently well, but nothing to write home about. We’ve seen MANY reviews from our readers saying that you’re paying for the atmosphere and experience, not the food, and WOW is that the truth!

It’s also important to note that the restaurant itself is pretty dark since it’s imitating being in a drive-in, so if you’re someone who isn’t a fan of eating in the dark or needs to really see your food as you eat, this will likely be at the BOTTOM of your list.
