So you might not want to think about something like etiquette at Disney World, but you ARE going to be out in public, so you probably should think about it.

Now, we’re not going to give you a long list of etiquette rules or teach you about manners because we’re sure you already know how to act in a public setting. However, sometimes there are things you MIGHT not be thinking about that you’ll do that can be annoying to other visitors and Cast Members.
Walking in a straight line as a group
If you’ve got a large group of people, we are begging you to please not walk in a line all together. This blocks the walkway for other visitors and makes it harder to get past you and your group.

We understand the need to keep everyone in the group together, but you can do that without blocking all of Main Street, U.S.A.
Having one person wait in line with a group joining later
We understand that things can happen when you’re waiting in line — like your kid needing to use the bathroom. That’s perfectly understandable if you have to leave the line and come back. But if you have a whole group join you in the line much later, we’re going to be suspicious.

This is basically line cutting and it’s technically against Disney World’s rules. A Cast Member could call you out on it, too, so if you have a whole group, you should all wait in line together the WHOLE time.
Blocking views during fireworks
We know you’re excited about seeing the nighttime fireworks, but please don’t put your kids on your shoulders, because you’re blocking others’ views of the fireworks. We know you want your kids to see the fireworks, too, but this could also be dangerous if someone bumps into you and knocks your kid off your shoulders.

Also, please don’t raise your phones, cameras, or whatever else you have above your head. This is one of those cases where you should be considerate of the people standing behind you.
Stopping in the middle of walkways
So we totally get that being in Disney World might mean being on your phone more often than you expected. You need to book that next Lightning Lane on Genie+ or check wait times or Mobile Order food. But don’t stop in the middle of walkways to do it.

If you must do something on your phone (or if you have any other reason for stopping), move over to the side so people can easily get around you.
Talking loudly over pre-shows and rides or loudly reciting dialogue
Please do not talk loudly over pre-shows and rides. Maybe you’ve seen them before, but more than likely, there’s someone present there who has not yet been on that ride. If you must talk, keep it to a quiet whisper.

As far as reciting dialogue on rides (Haunted Mansion, we’re looking at you), we’re guilty of it, too, but we ask that you don’t recite it loudly. Mouth the words or whisper — just don’t be a distraction to other visitors. We get not being able to resist saying “Welcome, foolish mortals.” We TOTALLY get it.
Taking flash photos on dark rides
We’ve been there…we’re really into a dark ride and suddenly, a bright light has blinded us because someone has taken a flash photo. One, you’re not supposed to do that anyway. Two, it’s disrespectful to everyone on that ride with you.

If you want to take photos, make sure your flash is turned off. Don’t be that person.
Ignoring Cast Members
Cast Members give instructions for a reason: to protect you, them, and everyone else. If a Cast Member asks you to do or not do something, please do not ignore them. They literally have your safety in mind.

For example, if a Cast Member tells you not to step over a taped line on the street (usually before and during parades), do not step over it. It’s there for a reason.
Trying to cheat the height requirements
We’ve seen way too many parents think they can cheat the height requirements for certain rides. The height requirements are there to keep your kid safe. If they’re under a certain height and get on that ride, they could even be hurt. Why would you want to put your kid in that kind of danger?

So don’t put lifts in your kid’s shoes or encourage them to stand on their tiptoes or anything else that would cheat the system. They will eventually reach the height requirements.
So keep in mind that the best thing you can do is remember to “always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind” (yes, that’s a Doctor Who quote). It takes zero effort to do that and we promise you’ll have a much better Disney World experience and make the experience better for other visitors and Cast Members.
