Why We’re Already Worried About the Lengthy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster CLOSURE in Disney World

If there’s one thing that can bring down your Disney day, it’s your favorite ride being down.

Rides do close down, sometimes for maintenance, a mechanical issue, or a refurbishment. Recently, Disney announced a ride closure for 2024 that will be extensive, and here’s what we know.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios officially CLOSED for refurbishment on January 9th. When we checked the Disney World website, the 8th is the last date for which we saw operating hours.

From January 9th until April 6th (the furthest date we can see), there are no operating hours listed on Disney’s website. As of right now, Disney hasn’t shared when the ride will re-open.

However, if you remember, we saw this coaster close for a lengthy refurb in 2023. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed on February 21st, 2023 for maintenance and refurbishment, with a projected reopening timeframe of “summer” 2023. We saw it reopen on May 26th after months of closure. Could this be a sign of what’s to come with this refurb?

We don’t have any clues on what they will be working on during the closure. However, we have noticed that the ride has broken down often since it reopened in 2023. There have been rumors for years that the ride could see a retheme or a new band could replace Aerosmith. Of course, that’s all just speculation — Disney has not made any announcements.

  1. Was there in early December this year. The que is definitely in bad shape. Hopefully the whole thing gets refurbished but that as you say could be a lengthy delay!
